Xpress Café, Castle Hill
Camp in front of this caravan and enjoy a nice hot cuppa.
Curious to try out this quirky airstream van café, I dragged my friend to try their famous burgers. The café was in a parking lot, so we were able to find parking easily. It is situated amidst different shops such as 99bikes and Victoria’s Basement. The servers had bright smiles and were friendly throughout the whole transaction and in their interactions with other guests. Ron Wilson and his family seem to strive to provide a great experience for their customers.
Food
I was excited to try their pulled pork burger after reading a glowing review, but it came out in a wrap. Although I wanted the bun instead of the wrap, I was glad in the end as the wrap came out toasted and had a nice crunchy texture. The meat was dry, but the flavours shone through – I loved the twist of the jalapeno mayo that really lifted the wrap.
My friend ordered the burger and aesthetically, it was very impressive, with its layers of meat, cheese, bacon, pickles. My friend also said his beef was unfortunately dry, but the flavours were promising. Perhaps they were having an off-day and because of their positive reviews online, I’m keen to try their burgers again.
The real star of our meal was the chips. Freshly fried and seasoned, they were perfectly fried and generously seasoned.
Pros and Cons
The location is prime for workers in the area looking for good coffee and a decent feed during their lunch break. The airstream caravan is an interesting concept making it a novelty to visit and take photos with. There is ample seating with both shared and intimate seating arrangements all under cover so that you can visit in all weathers.
As everything is made fresh, it does take a little bit of time for the food to come out but its worth it considering the quality!
Overall Experiences
My friend and I had a great time at Xpress Café and we enjoyed eating around a metal van. While we were disappointed in the dry meat of our meals, we are interested in coming back, even if it’s just for coffee and fries. There is also a breakfast menu aside from burgers which I am also interested in checking out.
