The Fiddler, Rouse Hill
History and modernity meet to form a Wonderland for visitors of Rouse Hill to explore.
The Fiddler was established in 1826 and has been recently revamped; it calls itself the House of Celebrations, and rightfully so. This stunning megapub comprises of areas suitable for kids, couples, families, parties, and weddings.
Walking into The Fiddler, I could not believe how ingeniously this place was designed. Consisting of private rooms inside the Irish Pub to open-air seating areas perfect for large groups, this pub is spacious and accommodating for different occasions.
Despite the gloomy weather on the day of our visit, there was no hindrance to the constant flow of customers! With spaces that are covered, semi-covered, and completely indoors, a little bit of rain was not going to stop families and friends from grabbing a drink from the bar and eating some great food.
Food
The Fiddler had a great range of classic Australian pub-style foods to gourmet dishes such as Atlantic salmon and pork knuckle. Looking through the abundant menu, my friend and I chose the eye fillet with housemade dark mushroom sauce, the pan-fried Atlantic salmon, and the crunchy Asian kale salad on the side. After ordering the food at the counter and given our table number, the food was served within 20 minutes by friendly table staff. The steak was perfectly cooked to medium rare and even though I didn’t order it myself, I couldn’t help but steal a few bites.
Pros & Cons
I was blown away by the quality of the dishes that were brought out and I would consider The Fiddler to serve some of the best pub food in the Hills. The Fiddler is also visually stunning with each section boasting a distinct character for different functions and customers, allowing a variety of choice. There was a function hall for parties and weddings, semi-sheltered balconies for birthday parties and gatherings, a bar for a casual evening drink, and even a playground for the kids! However, this can also be overwhelming for first-time visitors as there are so many sections. Note, the main desk is past the courtyard sign and next to the kitchen (look out for the bike sign).
Overall Experience
The service was efficient and friendly and the food was aesthetically pleasing and tasted great, justifying their high ratings on Google reviews and Timeout. Parking was not an issue because there were so many spaces around the venue. Once we finished our meal, the weather began to clear so we decided to grab a coffee on The Verandah. As we finished our coffee in what felt like a different world to the pub we ate at, I couldn’t help but plan my next visit here and explore the brunch menu.
